Ms. Ellen Corcella founded Corcella Law, P.C. to serve clients with the same compassion and determination she brought to find justice for victims during her career as a prosecutor. Ms. Corcella has 25 years of legal expertise and is an accomplished trial attorney. Today, more than ever, businesses, families, and individuals need a lawyer who understands their needs and serves their best interests. Since opening her practice, Ms. Corcella has successfully served business and private clients. Her practice focuses on employment law, business law, family law and civil litigation.
Ms. Corcella earned her law degree in 1982 from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana and also is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the Northern District of Indiana, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, and the U.S. Appeals Court for the Second Circuit. Ms. Corcella is a member of the training faculty for the National Association of Attorney Generals (NAAG). Ms. Corcella has lectured on numerous topics including “How To Protect Your Business” for various chambers of commerce and “The fundamentals of Cross Examination” as part of continuing legal education for attorneys.
In May of 2001, Ms. Corcella left New York City and returned to the Midwest, where she grew up, in order to provide a better place to raise her adopted daughter. Ms. Corcella served as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Saint Joseph and Marion counties. As the supervisor of the Marion County Prosecutor's grand jury division, Ms. Corcella successfully prosecuted cases involving public corruption and white-collar crime, including embezzlement, tax fraud, ponzi schemes, contract fraud, and identity theft. Her accomplishments include convicting a defendant who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Indiana's "Build Indiana Fund" and convincing a jury to convict Steven Halcomb of murdering his ex-wife, Karen Jo Smith, without forensic evidence and without the victim's body. Halcomb is serving a 95-year prison sentence. Karen Jo Smith has not yet been found.
Her career began in 1982 as an Assistant District Attorney for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, New York City. In 1992, Ms. Corcella became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York. She was assigned to the Organized Crime and Racketeering Unit, where she successfully prosecuted mobsters; and served as the Chief of the General Crimes Unit. From 1998 to 2001, Ms. Corcella served as the Chief of the Investigations Unit for the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for New York City. In that capacity, Ms. Corcella supervised wiretapping investigations, convicted national and international drug traffickers and took down international money laundering rings.
In addition to her law practice, Ms. Corcella spends time with her daughter, writes and is a photographer.
